Grandmaster
Yuet-sing AU, Black Belt 10th Dan Grandmaster
AU has been interested in martial arts since he was young. At the age of 13, he
started learning Taekwondo under Korean instructors. After years of diligent
studies, he has been entitled a Black Belt 6th Dan by Kukiwon. He has
also learned Korean Hopkido and is a Black Belt 5th Dan. At the age
of 15, he competed in the First Asian Taekwondo Competition representing Hong
Kong. Mr. Au won himself one silver and one bronze medals in four international
Taekwondo competitions. He also came first in the Hong Kong Representative
Selection Competition for World Taekwondo Competition and was four time champion
of the Hong Kong Taekwondo Open Competition. In
1979, he was appointed instructor of the Hong Kong Ladies Team for the World
Taekwondo Invitation Competition. Again in 1989, he was Leader of the Hong Kong
Team for the world competition held in Seoul. Grandmaster
AU was recommended for Black Belt 7th Dan by the World Taekwondo
Federation in 1989 but he turned it down as he wanted to focus in developing
Heng Yue Yen Long Kwon. Grandmaster Au left the Taekwondo scene ever since. Grandmaster Yuet-sing Au is very well-known for his brilliant history in Taekwondo. Heng Yue Yen Long Kwon, a contemporary Chinese Martial Art, founded by Grandmaster Au in 1981, is hence often mistaken as Taekwondo by those who know very little about martial arts. Grandmaster Au founded Heng Yue Yen Long KwonOther
than Taekwondo, Grandmaster Au was very enthusiastic to learn Chinese martial
arts. Even in his younger days, he has never missed any major martial arts
performance or competition. He understands fully that Chinese martial arts have
been going on for thousands of years and different forms have been developed.
Its domain is so extensive that no one can learn everything or exhaust its
skills. In
1970’s and 1980’s, martial arts boomed in Hong Kong. In addition to Chinese
martial arts, Jeet Kune Do, Karate, Aikido, Jujitsu, Muay Thai, Judo, kick
boxing and many other forms of martial arts were demonstrated and tournaments
were held in Hong Kong. Grandmaster Au researched into these various schools.
After five years’ hard work, he developed a new form of martial art, Heng
Yue Yen Long Kwon, which is proficient in fighting whatever the range may
be. This means that the advantage is always yours whether your opponents is at a
“contact range”, a “close range”, a “mid-length range, a “long
range”, or even an “out-of-combat range”. Besides
the traditional stances, Grandmaster Au has designed various unique stances
including Attack Stance, Fighting Stance and Lucky Stance which allow the
delivery of kicks and punches simultaneously and interchangeably, making attack
and defence more effective and is a break-through in the world martial art
arena. Grandmaster
Au opines that martial arts are not just punching and kicking. There must be a
guiding philosophy or else it is body without a soul. Grandmaster Au hence put
in the teachings of Confucius, Mencius, Laozi and Zhuangzi into Heng Yue Yen
Long Kwon, making it a more sophisticated and complete martial art. |
